If you plan on staying the night with us at the Ranch, there are a few things you will need to know.
We will be providing your meal Saturday evening. However, the rest of the time you are here, you on ya own. Please bring snacks, drinks and any breakfast foods you will need.
Each cabin comes with an outdoor grill and fully equipped kitchen, bedding and towels.
Think of it as camping. Anything you would need to bring with you on a camping trip, are the same items you will most likely need to stay overnight at the ranch. :)
Cabin space is limited at the Ranch. However, there are other options.
*There are a few hotels 14 miles away from the Ranch in Sherman, TX. The prices range from $50 to $90.
**Just like when you were a kid at summer camp, we can bunk you up with other couples/families. We are all one big happy family anyways, right? :)
***There is primitive style camping available. So feel free to bring a tent or camper. No hookups available.
We combined our households over a year ago,
God has blessed us with more than we are deserving of.
Since we do not need homely gifts,
We have come up with another idea that’s full of love!
We know it’s not traditional,
And we don’t want to sound like a bore.
We’ve decided to have no wedding list at all,
Because you being there will mean so much more!
For those friends and family who still insist,
We will have a special donation box set aside.
Whether it’s money, a love note or advice for the newlyweds,
Any treasure left in there will mean a lot to the groom and his new bride.
The cabins are now full. There is still plenty of room if you want to bring a tent or pop up. There are no connections but there are outdoor showers/restrooms. Weather should be nice and cool in October so camping might be fun! :) If not, we can help get you a group rate at a hotel in Sherman (about 15 minutes away) if you'd like.
After many road blocks in trying to organize the proposal I wanted, with the help of many family members it was a success. On June 4, 2016, with 19 family member present, at the Texas Rangers vs. Seattle Mariners game, I got down on a knee and asked Kristine to be my bride. With the help of my cousin Trey and his buddy Josh Frazier, Josh tossed her a ball, from the Rangers Dugout, bound with rubberbands and inside was the ring. I think she was truly surprised because the look on her face was priceless. Well as you can see, she accepted and here we are. With your presence on the Ranch, you can help make this one of the most memorable experiences we've ever had.
I was completely surprised by the proposal. On June 4, 2016, we showed up at the ball park several hours early to tailgate before the game. There were a total of 20 of us and we were having a great time. I did notice that Stephen was keeping a very close eye on the time and was concerned about getting into the stadium late. We left our tailgating party early and headed for our seats. After sitting there for a little bit, I realized his cousin was there, standing in the back behind us. I waved hello and thought, that’s crazy he is at the same game we are. But, I didn’t give it another thought and continued waiting for the game to start. I did however, want a beer. I mean, who goes to a baseball game and not get an ice cold beer? I asked Stephen if he would go with me to get one and he said no. What? In fact, he told me that I couldn’t have one either and that I needed to stay in my seat because we couldn’t miss the first pitch. I can only imagine the look on my face! A few moments later, he told me there was a guy in the dugout and he had something for me. Stephen walked me over to the dugout where a baseball, wrapped in a ton of rubber bands, was tossed up to me. Now I am really confused about what is going on! Stephen unwrapped the baseball and opened it to show there was a beautiful ring inside. Stephen got down on one knee and asked me to be his bride. The time, effort and thought that he put into making sure I had fairy tale proposal, will never be forgotten!!
So....January 27, 2015....a first date to remember....SUSHI....YES...what could be better. I was thrilled to know she loved it as well.....until we ordered.
Me: California or spicy tuna roll...something simple.
Her: "The Marry Me Roll...."
Well that's how it started. It was a great first date to include finding a lot of things we had in common such as fish and our passion for good coffee. While I would say I have a passion for Starbucks, I think she'd argue that Biggby's coffee rules the roost.
Since that time we have grown in many things to include our love for each other as well as our passion for Christ. I am grateful she gave me the opportunity for the first date and I am more grateful that I get to see her pretty face each day now and for the rest of my life.
Stephen and I had our first (and 2nd) date on January 27, 2015. We met at my favorite sushi place, Piranha Killer Sushi in Flower Mound, TX. For those of you that have been there, you know that the “Marry Me Roll” is one of the best rolls on their menu and it’s also the roll that I order every time I eat there. I debated about ordering this roll, even as I drove to meet him. Was this appropriate for a first date? I certainly don’t want him to think I was out looking for husband. God knows that was the furthest thing from my mind at that time. I finally decided that I love this roll too much NOT to order it just because I am afraid of what some guy will think. And if he can’t take a joke, then forget him. You should have seen the look on his face when I ordered it…Priceless! I was pleasantly surprised he had a great sense of humor and enjoyed teasing me about it.
Our conversation that night just flowed. There were no moments of uncomfortable silence. We laughed and talked for a while. After we were done with dinner, he walked me to my car. As we stood there talking and trying to say goodnight, we noticed a fish store just a few doors down from the restaurant, so we decided to check it out. They were getting ready to close but they allowed us to go in and look around. We looked at fish, some tanks…we really just didn’t want the night to end. When we realized the employees were antsy and ready to close up so they could go home, we decided we should probably leave as well. He walked me to my car, gave me a hug and I went on my way.
I wasn’t even completely backed out of my parking spot when he text me and thanked me for a great night. I was not ready for the night to end, but it was a weekday and both of us had to be at work early the next day. So I just casually mentioned that I was going to Starbucks, also located in the same shopping center. He suddenly felt like a Starbucks as well. So we sat inside Starbucks and talked until they closed. Just like the restaurant and fish store, the conversation just flowed. We talked like we knew each other for years. Unfortunately, the evening had to come to end. He walked me to my car, gave me a sweet little kiss and said goodnight.
From day one, I always enjoyed Stephen’s company and loved the way he made me laugh. But I was not convinced he was “the one” for several months. My mom will tell you that she knew after date 3 that Stephen was the one for me. Stephen took me to see Dumb and Dumber To. Not just because I wanted to see it but he actually wanted to see it too! Mom knew then, that if he had as much of a quirky sense of humor as I did, he has to be the one. We were two peas in a pod. She was right, we were.
The moment I realized he was 'the one' was when I had my car accident, March 7, 2015. That is when I realized I was in love with this amazing man. Not only did he get to the accident scene in minutes, he never left my side. After I was released from the hospital, he took me to his house and cared for me. He changed my bandages, kept me iced up and even made a way for me to brush my teeth in bed, since I was on crutches. He showed so much love and compassion for me, my heart began to swell with love. And it still grows every day I am with him.
We have had our fair share of challenges, and at times, mountains to climb. God has definitely had his hand in this relationship and has blessed it from the very beginning.
Stephen knows everything there is to know about me; the real me. I can be myself 100% of the time. He has never criticized or judged me. Never made fun of or made me feel less of person. He knows that I like to hit the snooze button several times before getting out of bed and that I can be a little grumpy in the morning before I get my coffee. He knows I am very particular about the house and can have a little bit of OCD at times. Yet, he chose me anyways!
I love him more and more every day. He truly is my other half. Together we make one heck of a team. In everything we do. It doesn’t matter if it’s teaching and guiding our kids, or just making our bed. Whatever the circumstance or the challenge that we face, we are more successful when we tackle it together.
I could not be happier that the Skinner crew of 5 and the Carmicheal crew of 4 are merging together. I love each and every one of them. We are bigger, and better, than the Brandy Bunch…we are the Skarmicheals!
Make sure you are checking those mailboxes. :)
